LOTTARIO is an Ontario lottery draw game, also called Lottario 6/45 began many years ago in 1978. During its history of drawings, many changes were implied into strategy even though it is only a weekly game. To play the Lottario game, choose six numbers from 1 to 45. If you match all of them, you get the Jackpot that starts at $250,000 and grows until won. Also, Lottario has many other prizes, a bonus is drawn in addition to the main set of 6, so you have more chances to win. The lottery is held once a week on Saturdays evenings and is operated by the OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation). For over 30 years of lasting history, the largest jackpot win occurred in 1992 when a single winner won the jackpot of $3.6 million.

Lottario was improved in 2015. Since then it offers Jackpots that grow more quickly, also three new prize categories, and better overall odds of winning. The odds of winning the main jackpot are 1 in 8,145,060, and winning odds for any prize are 1 in 21. If you are interested in other lotteries see how to increase your chances to win Lotto max with our special guide. Three new categories added are:

  • Fourth prize: 4/6 winning numbers and the bonus number;
  • Sixth prize: 3/6 winning numbers plus the bonus number;
  • Eighth prize: for only the bonus number.

Lottario tickets cost $1 per play and each play consists of two sets of six numbers for the Main Draw and the Early Bird Draw. Two draws are held weekly on Saturday nights. To be eligible for the Early Bird Draw, your ticket must be purchased by 11:59:59pm (ET) on Friday. Early Bird Draw jackpot is $50,000. Tickets for the Main draw can be purchased until 10:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday (draw night).

How to play Lottario?

A single ticket for the Lottario draw costs $1. For this sum, the play provides two sets of numbers. Tickets purchased before 11:59:59 p.m. (Eastern Time) Fridays are eligible for the Early Bird to draw on Saturdays. Tickets for the Main draw can be purchased from 00:00 am until 10:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. Lottario draws are every Saturday night. The Early Bird draw is held after the main draw on Saturday night.

While buying the tickets players can select only their first set of six numbers from 1 to 45 or use a Quick Pick option and the lottery terminal will randomly select numbers. Whether you select your first set of numbers or use a Quick Pick, the second set is always randomly generated by the terminal. During the Main draw, six Lottario winning numbers and the bonus number are drawn from a pool of 45 balls. Lottario has a minimum starting jackpot of $250,000 which can grow if nobody won. To take home the top tier prize, you need to match all six numbers. A bonus number is counted towards the 2nd place prize only. In Early bird draw, four balls are drawn and tickets matching all four Early Bird numbers share in the $50,000 Early Bird prize.

To improve your chances of winning you can use Encore. Encore can be played with Lottario for an additional $1 per play up to 10 times per ticket. Moreover, you can choose to play 5, 7, 8, and 9 number combinations. Combination Play allows players to use a set of numbers in various combinations and each combination is a separate play. With new changes in 2015 players now have the convenience of purchasing Lottario tickets for up to 26 weeks in advance instead of 10 weeks.
